ModbookProXModbook is a company that wants to “unleash the creativity” in everyone. They’re doing this by modifying existing Apple macbook laptops into more functional tablet devices.

There are a handful of modifiers out there that take the inner workings of a Mac OSX laptop and turn it into a tablet design. You can find them at your local Mac meetups and even among the rank and fife of the WWDC community.

But none of these other modifiers or Mac hackers, have received the praise of Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak who said of the Modbook, “I’m a gadget guy so I love to collect new, interesting things… and what an incredible device this [Modbook Pro] is.”

Modbook offers a Mod your own Mac service on their website where they will take your existing machine and turn it into a tablet device. They also sell OSX powered Modbook Pro tablets in a 2.3ghz, 2.5ghz and 2.9ghz variety. For these machines Modbook purchases a brand new Macbook Pro and does the conversion in house. Within 7-10 days they ship off your Modbook Pro tablet.

Now the team has taken to Kickstarter to launch their new Modbook Pro X.

ModbooxProX-2The Modbook Pro X is a 15.4″ tablet that can function as a tablet, laptop or desktop with optional accessories. It features a Retina Display with a 2,880 x 1800 pixel resolution at 220 pixels per inch.

The Modbook Pro X also features a digitizer pen which offers 2,048 pressure levels, pen tilt and rotate functionality, programmable dual side-switches, a digital eraser and replacement nib set.

Modbook Pro X is configurable with up to a 2.8GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, integrated Intel Iris Pro Graphics with an optional NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M GPU, and up to 32GB of 1600MHz random-access memory.

With the Modbook Pro line, including the Modbook Pro X, the tablet is capable of doing everything the corresponding Macbook Pro can do, because it is a Macbook Pro in a new, durable housing, modified to be a tablet.

You can write code, create photoshop designs, create music and more with the same horsepower you would have with a laptop.
