By now we are all too familiar with the 2013 Target holiday data breach security experts have suggested that the data thieves in the case of the nation’s second largest discount department store chain, have topped 110 million customers.

The data in the Target breach was obtained through malware injected into the company’s point of sale (POS) systems. Specifically, every card reader terminal across every Target location was compromised, allegedly by malware written by a 17 year old Russian Hacker.

Throughout the investigation it has been continually reported that data at high end department store chain Neiman Marcus, was also compromised. The droves of holiday shoppers who rushed into Target for door busters, Black Friday and holiday sales drove the number of victims at target to alarming levels. In fact, the Target data breach is the worst in retail history.

Neiman Marcus, on the other hand, wasn’t driving customers through their doors with hopes of $275 50″ Tvs, nevertheless though, like all retail outlets, their traffic sky rockets during the holiday season.

Venturebeat reported Thursday that the number of customers who had their data compromised at Neiman Marcus was now up to 1.1 million. They also reported that 2400 customers of theirs had reported fraudulent activity on their cards since the data compromise.

Neiman Marcus reported that their data was compromised from July to October 2013. Security analysts have suggested that the Neiman Marcus data breach may have been a dress rehearsal for the big heist at Target.

The method for obtaining the customer data, which consists of debit and credit card numbers along with customer personal information, was the same as the tactics used in the Target heist.
