Let that headline sink in for a minute. Nintendo is beating Microsoft in video game sales. Now I promise you the next story isn’t going to be about Blackberry beating Android.

On Wednesday, Forbes reported on the latest data from VGChartz which compiled weekly estimates on video game and video game console sales.

The latest VG Chartz data, for the week ending February 22nd, shows that in total hardware sales Nintendo beats Microsoft.

The hardware data compilation puts the sales of the Xbox One and Xbox 360 together, just as they put Nintendo’s Wii U, Wii and the Nintendo DS together.

For the reporting period Nintendo sold 178,415 units. That compares to Microsoft’s sales of 85,551 units for the same period. Nintendo sold nearly double the amount of units, than Microsoft.

VGChartz reported that Nintendo was just 12,266 units short of beating the Xbox One with just the Wii U. Considering all the reports of Nintendo’s lackluster sales of the Wii U, that should be troubling to Microsoft.

So how does Sony rank?

Sony is the clear winner with 449,705 total hardware units in the same period. This is said to be fueled by both the launch of the PS4 in Japan and that sellable stock quantities have been replenished in most US retailers.

It’s important to note that while VGChartz’ estimates are typically right on target it’s still just estimates.

Actual unit sales numbers for the month of February will be released by NPD on March 13.
