hang-wYear after year the synergy that crosses over from the SXSW Interactive festival to the original SXSW Music festival continues to roar. More and more music lovers are coming a few days early to catch the latest and greatest in technology products, apps, and new high growth potential companies. At the same time more and more tech geeks, and app aficionados have elected to stay in Austin to catch some, if not all, of the Music festival.

Over the past few years SXSW has added some kind of big event on the last night of the interactive festival that merges the two together. This year, it’s a concert headlined by Grammy award winning hip hop star 50 Cent.

50cent150 Cent is a multi faceted rapper and entrepreneur. In addition to acting, recording music and performing he has also set up several of his own businesses and even invested in new technology companies. One of those companies is a social event engagement sharing app, appropriately called Hang w/.

The Hang w/ app allows users to “hang with” each other via live video and simultaneous chat. Users follow other users who interest them, and the system sends a notification every time someone in a user’s “following” network goes live.

Since investing in the app, the rapper, who’s real name is Curtis Jackson, has been using it to broadcast court side from New York Knicks games. Now, 50 is going to kick it up a notch with a live concert of his own, basically putting his money where his mouth is. This will be an amazing opportunity for the app which saw over 1 million downloads in it’s first 9 months. It will also be a great stage to test the technology on a huge scale.

“This is going to be a pivotal event in Hang w/ history,” said Andrew Maltin, co-founder and CEO of Hang With, Inc. “Hang w/ has shown itself to be a powerful technology platform for musicians to engage their fans, and we are thrilled at the opportunity to showcase our platform in front of the who’s who of music and tech, courtesy of 50 Cent who himself lives at the intersection of music and tech.”

Dave Swartz, Co-founder and President of Hang With, Inc., says, “We are thrilled to be headlining South by Southwest Interactive crossover night with our partner 50 Cent and bridge the gap for artists and fans for a one of a kind experience all over the world.”
