KnockiconPasswords got you down? Well it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing Apple’s new TouchID on future iterations of the Macbook or Macbook anytime soon. Where would you even put a finger print scanner?

Well if you’re either uber lazy or looking for a way to unlock your Macbook that’s uber secure than there’s a new app that you need to check out now.

The new app called Knock, will set you back $3.99 in the iTunes app store but if you have an iPhone and a Macbook this could actually be a really secure way of locking your computer.

Once downloaded, Knock will unlock your Macbook for you by simply knocking your iPhone on something, or even just waving it in the air or tapping it through your jeans. The motion sensors in the iPhone act as an unlocking mechanism for the Macbook provided you’re paired via Bluetooth to your Macbook.

While most tech sites are taking a lighthearted or tongue and cheek look at this new app, after checking it out it makes sense for people looking for an extra layer of security. Everyone knows that earlier versions of OSX allow people to easily view all of your stored passwords if the macbook is left open revealing huge amounts of sensitive data. Also, most people use the same password for everything so if someone has seen you login chances are you can step away from your computer at the library, your office or even the local Starbucks and be prone to a quick attack.

Using Knock means that you could set some incredibly long password as your unlock password and then use the app to unlock your computer. If you accidentally unpair your iPhone from your computer you can always resort back to the password unlock, the same way you can go back to entering a number pin on your iPhone if your fingers are wet or your iPhone 5S just doesn’t feel like cooperating with your thumb print.

You can download Knock here from the iTunes app store.
